Online Bachelors Degrees by Major

Data: U.S. Dept. of Education, IPEDS Updated August 26, 2026 Methodology

Most online college guides list majors by describing them. This section lists them by counting them. Every institution reports to the U.S. Department of Education how many bachelors degrees it awarded in each field and whether each program is offered via distance education, and each page below uses that reporting to show which primarily online institutions actually award the degree, ranked by completions in 2022-23.

Each major page covers what the degree usually contains, the accreditation or state approval to verify, the delivery format, and the schools, with each school’s federal cost and completion data one click away. The choosing an online college guide covers the decision in general, and can you get a bachelors degree online covers which fields are and are not available fully online.

Majors

How the school lists are built

An institution appears on a major page when three things are true in the federal data: at least half of its undergraduates are enrolled exclusively online, it reports a bachelors program in the major’s field as offered via distance education, and it awarded bachelors degrees in that field in 2022-23. Schools are ordered by completions, and the count is shown on every card. No editorial weighting, no paid placement. Institutions are listed under the names they report to the federal government, which occasionally differ from marketing names.

Completions measure scale, not quality or fit. Two institutions awarding the same degree can differ widely in net price, in the share of students who finish, and in graduate debt, all of which appear on each school’s page from federal reporting.

Fields that require extensive labs, studio work, or first-license clinical training are rarely delivered fully online at the bachelors level, and the federal data shows few primarily online institutions awarding them: biology and the physical sciences, engineering, fine and performing arts, and pre-licensure nursing. Hybrid programs exist for several of these. The can you get a bachelors degree online guide covers which components typically require attendance.
