What an online information technology bachelors degree usually covers

IT bachelors programs usually cover networking, operating systems, databases, systems administration, IT project management, security fundamentals, and scripting, with concentrations such as network administration, cloud computing, or IT management. Several large online programs build vendor certifications into the coursework.

Curriculum varies by institution, and course titles vary more than content does. Compare the published degree plans of two or three programs side by side rather than relying on the concentration names.

Accreditation and what to verify

Institutional accreditation is required; ABET accredits some IT programs under its computing commission, which is optional and uncommon among online programs. No license follows from the degree. Where a program embeds certifications, ask which ones, whether exam fees are included, and whether certification credit can be applied toward the degree.
